“WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

Those are the words young and even not-so-young women in love want to hear.

I think back to the days of The Mister’s and my “courtship.”  I was pretty sure that we were destined to be married.  And for many happy years.  And I was right.  That has all come to pass.

But I never, ever heard those special “will you marry me?” words.

Why, you might ask?

Well, because I didn’t need to. Hear them, that is.

Again, you might ask “why?”

Because the Mister’s mother called me the DAY BEFORE he was planning to “ask me to marry him.”  She wanted me to know that the family was delighted with his decision to propose to me and to tell me how excited they all were that we would be officially engaged. And the very next day to boot! She certainly hoped I’d say “yes.”

This story has been fodder for great amusement over the years.  It came to mind this last weekend when the New York Times featured some unique, special, and clearly very expensive proposals. They were fun to read about but when push comes to shove, I liked ours a whole bunch better.

Ours was, essentially, a giant family hug.  Who could ask for anything more?
