WHAT’S IN YOUR MAILBOX?

Theoretically that’s between you and and your “post-person”.  But there here are those times when said “post-person” mis-delivers the mail.  Then, and only then, do others get a peek at what you and your family reads and enjoys. What’s in your mailbox can actually say quite bit about you.

To wit, many years ago, on the advice of a good friend. we subscribed to “The Week.”  It’s a small, dense magazine which presents both sides of every story.  Or it used to, anyway. Several years ago, it took a slight left-hand turn. It’s still well researched and thoughtful but its bias has become clear.  And, yes, we still subscribe. And, yes, we still read it cover to cover. Each and every week.

Not long ago, a neighbor’s mail was “mis-delivered” to us.  A copy of The Week was in that mail. The Mister carried it down the street to our neighbors, whom we’d never met.  They were delighted to receive their mail, and especially their copy of The Week.  They’d wondered where it was. They told The Mister they’d been subscribers for many years.  Just like we’ve been. And had always enjoyed it.

Finding a copy of our favorite magazine in our mail box, but intended for a neighbor, felt a bit like being at a library desk and watching a stranger check out a book I’d just read and enjoyed.  Conversation between us was inevitable, spirited and fun.  A connection was made.

And, so we ask: Will that be the case with our neighbors down the street? Will we find a connection through The Week? Or will it simply be a matter of a small magazine, delivered to the wrong mail box, hand-delivered to its rightful recipients and absolutely nothing more?
