DID YOU EAT YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES?
No, I did not but there’s nothing new about that. At least for me. And now, it seems we have to be very careful about the fruits and vegetables we do eat. It’s all about Cyclosporin these days.
It’s nasty word for a nasty disease. At the moment, I am not as concerned about getting the disease as most people are.
I don’t say that in jest or mockery. There’s a simple reason for my sense of comfort. I only eat white food. Any food with a hint of color does not pass my lips. Never has. Never will. It’s not a disease. It’s a preference. A strong and life-long preference. And it quickly rules out all fruits and vegetables, which are cited as the culprits of this awful illness.
Our daughter-in-law is a wonderful cook and happily shares her bounty with us. But just this past week, I found something “purple” lurking in her otherwise deliciously white chicken salad. Turns out it was a grape. Or more to the point, half a grape. Thankfully, I spotted it and was able to quickly set it aside. She makes an excellent chicken salad. The errant grape or two notwithstanding.
Hopefully my food preferences will spare me a Cyclospora attack. Unless someone tries to slip a bit of fruit or a wee veggie into my food, I think I’ll be OK. But I’m wary. I’m alert. I trust no one. I look carefully before I eat. So, don’t even think about messing with my all-white palate. It could get ugly. Fast.
