It’s a Good Thing

“Miss You, Love You” is a newly-made-for-television movie.  Now airing on HBO Max.

It stars Allison Janney and Andrew Ranelles.  It looks and feels very much like a two-person stage play.  It’s also, in our shared opinion, must-see-TV. The New York Times wasn’t crazy about it but everyone else is raving.

Like others, we have followed Allison’s very successful career through the years.  She’s the ultimate comedienne but serious roles also come easily to her.  Like this one.

Allison and her family lived in Dayton, Ohio, in a small suburb called Oakwood.  So did we.   Paths crossed easily and readily.  Through the years, Allison’s mother, Macy, and I became friends.  Macy’s impact on Dayton’s cultural scene will be felt, honored and appreciated for years to come. Her father was, among other things, a talented jazz pianist.

One of Allison’s early television “gigs” was as C.J. Cregg, press secretary to the President on the “West Wing.”  Among her fellow actors on the West Wing were Rob Lowe (Sam Seeborn) and Martin Sheen, (President Jed Bartlett) both of whom also have roots in Dayton. 

Dayton is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I loved it there. Now, when I think of Dayton, and I often do, I will invoke the title of the movie: “Miss You, Love You.” And I will remember
