SPLINTERS AND PIMPLES AND ZITS - HOORAY!

As the mother of three boys, I was constantly given the opportunity to tend to their splinters and zits and pimples.  I looked upon those activities as our special times together.

I enjoyed nothing more than popping, needling and pinching all those yummy little annoyances. To cure them, of course.  Oh, sure, there was always whining and whimpering that went on but that did nothing but to add to the drama/fun.   One would have thought their world was over when the needles appeared but they always looked so much better when it was over.  At least I thought so.

Well, the children have all grown up and gone away, of course.  I continue to miss my opportunities to “operate” but life goes on.

Now, imagine my excitement just last week when fluid appeared on my arthritic knee! And we’re not talking just pimple-size fluid here!  We’re talking big time, obviously gooey, ready to be aspirated fluid!  Oh, how I wanted to stick a needle into that knee and see what might come out.

Alas, my good senses prevailed.  I let the doctor stick a big, sterilized needle in it and all is well. The knee feels much better and I probably avoided a massive infection if I’d done it by myself.  But I sure miss the old days when a tweezer, a sharp needle and a little pinching solved all one’s problems.
